Attendance Requirements

Attendance is extremely important for online schools. We do not take attendance in the same way as traditional schools, where attendance is based on whether a student was absent or present every period. Instead, our attendance is based on the number of minutes each student spends working in their courses. Reporting and collecting the correct minutes logged into the system is critical to our school’s funding and ability to pay for our educators, software, and curriculum.

Students will complete both online and offline course work in order to meet their weekly attendance requirements. Please see the link here for information regarding state attendance requirements.

Primavera K-3 grade students are required to attend at least 20 hours a week while our 4-5 grade students are required to attend 30 hours a week.

Primavera’s attendance requirements per grade level are as follows:

  • Kindergarten: 20 hrs/week or 4 hrs/day
  • 1st-3rd grade: 20 hrs/week or 4 hrs/day
  • 4th-5th grade: 30 hrs/week or 6 hrs/day

Grades K-2 usually spend about 3 hours a day online and do the rest of their day offline. Grade 3 usually spends about 4 hours a day online. Grades 4-5 spend about 4 to 5 hours a day online.

What To Include in Your Daily Attendance Log:

Your daily attendance log accounts for all the time you spend on your schoolwork—not just the time you spend working on the digital courseware itself. That means your attendance log should also include the time you spent offline:

  • Reading
  • Studying
  • Going on field trips
  • Completing projects
  • Working with a tutor
  • Doing homework

Make sure you include it all when you record your attendance minutes every day.

Per Arizona State Statute 15-808, attendance must be recorded daily and approved weekly by the parents of each student.
