About Primavera

Is Primavera Accredited?

Primavera Online School is Cognia accredited, so all our programs have been carefully evaluated. Due to Primavera’s continued commitment to the Cognia (formerly AdvancED) Standards, Assurances and Policies, our accreditation term is extended through June 30, 2024. How much does Primavera cost?

As a public charter school, Primavera Online School is tuition free and available for K-12th grade students up to the age of 21.

What kind of classes does Primavera offer?

Our highly structured and engaging curriculum includes all the core academic subjects (Math, English, Social Studies and Science) along with unique elective options. Our curriculum is accredited, aligned to state and national standards and highly engaging. You can learn more about our curriculum here.

Does Primavera offer a GED or diploma?

All our classes are fully aligned with Arizona state standards and students who complete them successfully will graduate with an accredited Arizona high school diploma recognized by colleges and employers.

Do your teachers meet the same requirements as traditional school teachers?

Yes, Primavera teachers are state certified, highly qualified in their subject area and well educated, with the majority of our teachers holding a master’s degree or higher.

What is the Primavera bullying/cyber bullying/harassment policy?

Primavera students will adhere to a ‘No Tolerance Policy’ so that all can continue to have a free and safe learning opportunity. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. The behavior is repeated, or has the potential to be repeated, over time. Students who are found to be involved in such behavior will be warned with their first infraction through notification to the parent/guardian and could be expelled from the school if the offense is repeated. Any infraction that is considered bullying, cyber-bullying, and/or harassment must occur within the confines of the Primavera student portal, school event or classroom for Primavera to be immediately involved.

Harassment or bullying on the basis of sex includes sexual harassment or bullying and gender-based harassment or bullying. Sexual harassment or bullying is unwelcome conduct of a sexual nature, such as unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal, nonverbal, or physical conduct of a sexual nature. Gender-based harassment or bullying is nonsexual intimidation or abusive behavior toward a student based on the student’s actual or perceived sex, including harassment based on gender identity, gender expression, and nonconformity with gender stereotypes. Harassing conduct may take many forms, including verbal acts and name-calling, as well as non-verbal behavior, such as graphic and written statements, or conduct that is physically threatening, harmful or humiliating. The conduct can be carried out by school employees, other students, and non-employee third parties. Both male and female students can be victims of harassment or bullying on the basis of sex, and the harasser or bully and the victim can be of the same sex. Bullying on the basis of sex constitutes sexual harassment.

Enrolling at Primavera

How do I enroll?

  • Primavera Online School’s open enrollment policy allows you to apply at any time during the school year.
  • You can access the online enrollment application via the “Apply Now” button on our website, or click here to go to the enrollment application.
  • Before you begin the enrollment application and enrollment process, please take note of a couple eligibility requirements:
    • Primavera Online is a fully Accredited Public Charter School in the State of Arizona, and parents/legal guardians must be current residents of Arizona and be able to provide current and valid Proof of Residence documentation to enroll their student.
    • Your student needs to be five years old by September 1st to be able to enroll into kindergarten, and students can enroll into the high school up through the age of 21 years old.
    • You must be the parent or legal guardian of the student with supporting custody documents to be able to enroll a student.

If I don’t complete the application, can I access it later?

  • Yes. When you create the PowerSchool Enrollment Account to start your enrollment application, the email address you enter and the password you create will allow you to sign back into your account to access your application in-progress to complete it or to start additional enrollment applications. Be sure to save these credentials.

How do you work with students who have special needs?

Primavera Online School’s special education department provides individualized attention and support to special needs students. A teacher/caseworker is assigned to each student from the time of enrollment and throughout all courses.

I forgot my username and password. What should I do?

  • When you originally created your PowerSchool Enrollment Account, you should have received an email from PowerSchool to the email address you entered to create the account. Please locate this email, and this will be your username/email address to access your PowerSchool Enrollment Account.
  • Click HERE to access the PowerSchool Enrollment Account sign in page, and click on the “Forgot password?” link at the bottom and enter your email address. Please follow the steps to recover your password.
  • For additional assistance, please call the Admissions Department at 480-530-0632 to speak with an Enrollment Advisor. They are happy to assist you, and are available Monday–Thursday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday’s from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Do I have to know exactly how much income my family makes?

You only need to provide an estimate on your family’s income. This information is used to provide data to the State of Arizona and will not affect your enrollment with Primavera.

I don’t have all the documents I need right now. Can I still apply?

  • The enrollment application is completed entirely online, and you will be provided an opportunity to upload your required Enrollment Documents directly unto the application at the end. The application allows you to save and return to forms in-progress to access them and complete them later as needed.
  • We recommend that you gather these documents prior to starting the application. You will be able to upload files from your computer or smartphone. You can also take pictures of your documents from your smartphone to upload. Please be sure to include the full document with all four corners and ensure the image is in focus and legible.
  • For additional assistance, please call the Admissions Department at 480-530-0632 to speak with an Enrollment Advisor. They are happy to assist you, and are available Monday–Thursday from 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Friday’s from 7 a.m.- 5 p.m.
  • The required documents for enrollment are:
    • A copy of your students Birth Certificate (required to submit online application successfully)
      • You must be a parent found on the Birth Certificate, or legal guardian of the student with supporting custody documents to be able to enroll a student.
    • A current (within 60 days) and valid Proof of Residency from the approved list of documents provided by the Department of Education for the State of Arizona. (required to submit online application successfully)

Eligible documents to submit for Proof of Residency:

      • Valid Arizona driver’s license, Arizona identification card
      • Valid Arizona motor vehicle registration
      • Valid Arizona Address Confidentiality Program authorization card
      • Property deed
      • Mortgage documents
      • Property tax bill
      • Rental agreement or lease (including Section 8 agreement)
      • Water, electric, gas, cable, or phone bill (dated within 60 days of student projected start)
      • Bank or credit card statement
      • W-2 wage statement
      • Payroll stub
      • Certificate of tribal enrollment or other identification issued by a recognized Indian tribe
      • Other documentation from a state, tribal, or federal agency (Social Security Administration, Veterans’ Administration, Arizona Department of Economic Security, etc.)

*The document submitted must be from the above list and match the physical address we have on file to be valid. (Proof of Residence Only)

    • Academic Records (Transcript or Report Cards) for Middle School or High School enrollment. (required to complete enrollment successfully and receive courses)
    • Additional documents, these will not hold up course assignment but are needed to complete your student’s file once in courses:
      • Academic Records (Report Cards) for Elementary School enrollment.
      • Immunizations (or Personal Beliefs Exemption Form)
      • Withdrawal Form from the previous school attended (for Fulltime Students only)
      • Special Education Records (if applicable)

Concurrent Enrolling and Transferring Credits

Can students really participate in online instruction at Primavera while enrolled full time at another school?

Yes. Arizona law allows a student to participate in online instruction while being concurrently enrolled full-time at another school:

Arizona Revised Statute § 15-808 was specifically created to allow concurrent participation in online instruction while being enrolled and attending full time at another school. The state, establishing the framework for online instruction, states – “Arizona online instruction shall be instituted to meet the needs of pupils in the information age. A.R.S. § 15-808 (A). This statute also provides for the ‘enrollment’ by a student at a school district or charter school and also the participation in ‘online instruction.’ A.R.S. § 15-808 (F).

Which schools are required to accept Primavera credits?

Arizona law requires that all Arizona public schools (including charter schools) must recognize all of the credits transferred from other charter schools, including Primavera. A.R.S § 15-701(H). Refusal to accept the credits transferred from Primavera is a direct violation of the law.

What happens if my school wants to grant me an elective credit for a core course taken at Primavera?

Within ten school days of receiving the list, the pupil may request to take an examination in each particular course in which core credit was denied. If the student passes the test, the school must accept the credit as core credit. A.R.S. § 15-701.01(I).

Am I required to show proof of payment for acceptance of summer school credits?

No. A student who is enrolled in a school district and participates in Primavera online instruction over the summer, is not required to prove payment as a condition of a school district accepting credits earned from the online course provider. A.R.S. § 15-701.01(I).

What if my school tells me they do not allow concurrent enrollment?

There are some schools that inform parents and students that they do not allow participation in online instruction at Primavera because the school does not allow concurrent enrollment. We believe this type of policy by a school undermines the purpose of the online instructions law and is likely a violation of enrollment and admissions laws. We have found that when challenged, most schools will back off of these types of statements and allow you to remain enrolled at their school, while participating in online instruction at Primavera.

Schools that tell you that your child is unable to attend Primavera or any other accredited online charter school because they do not allow concurrent enrollment is contrary to the law and likely contrary to the school’s own established policy. Not only would this be contrary to the online instruction laws, but it would also violate the enrollment laws, which require public schools to admit all children who meet the requirements of enrollment. A.R.S. § 15-816 and A.R.S. § 15-821. Charter schools are required to enroll pupils who submit timely applications, unless the number of applications exceeds the capacity of a program, class, grade level or building. A.R.S. § 15-184.

Do schools have to treat transferred credits completed at Primavera as core credits?

A school may choose to treat transferred credits as “elective credits” rather than “core credits by the school district.” However, the school to which the student is transferring must provide the student a list of those transferring credits it considers elective and core. A.R.S. § 15-701.01(I).

Transcripts

How do I order transcripts from Primavera?

Students who are transferring or need to submit transcripts to their primary school must remember to request them from Primavera once their class grades have been posted as they are not automatically forwarded. You can requests transcripts here.

Are schools required to provide my student transcripts when requested by Primavera?

Yes. Under Arizona law, if a student is enrolled in a school district or charter school and that student also participated in online instruction, the student’s school must release a copy of the student’s transcripts to the online course provider within 10 days of receiving the request. 2015 Ariz. Sess. Laws 127, § 2.A. and 2.B.

What if the school mentions FERPA as the reason they are not sending transcripts?

FERPA Stands for the “Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act.” FERPA does not prohibit disclosure of school transcripts to Primavera nor does the disclosure of school transcripts to Primavera “violate” FERPA. FERPA specifically permits the disclosure to “officials of other schools or school systems in which the student seeks or intends to enroll” if (i) the student’s parents are notified of the transfer; (ii) the student’s parents receive a copy of the records if they wish; and (iii) the student’s parents have an opportunity for a hearing to challenge the content of the record. All requests for transcripts from Primavera meet these three requirements, therefore, providing transcripts to Primavera is permitted under FERPA.

6-12th Grade FAQs

What kind of computer and internet access do I need?

It is recommended that you have a high-speed Internet service. Visit our tech support page for information about other technical requirements, or call 480.456.6678 and press option 2 for current students, then press 1. Technical support is available daily from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Monday–Friday to assist you.

Where can I complete my courses?

As a Primavera Online School student, you can do all your schoolwork from your own home, at your local library or at a nearby community center, virtually anywhere a computer and the Internet can be accessed. Coursework can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week so there is no specific window of time students must be logged in.

How do I interact with my teachers?

Your teachers will communicate with you via phone calls, instant messages, live online sessions, email, blogs and discussion boards. Many students report that they communicate more with Primavera teachers than they ever did with their teachers in a traditional school.

How is attendance determined?

Students are required to keep a daily log of minutes for each course. This log can be accessed by clicking the link on the top right side of this page. The student’s responsible party must approve their student’s daily log each day. You can access the parent or guardian login by clicking the link on the top right side of this page. Students that are their own responsible party will approve their own attendance when they submit their daily log.

Do I have to show up in person to take exams or submit homework?

All course work (workbooks, checkpoints, discussions, quizzes, projects and exams) is completed electronically. The only time a student is required to attend in person is during state-mandated testing, required by the Arizona Department of Education.

How am I graded?

Can I drop or change a course?

This will depend on your specific situation. You will need to speak with your School Counselor directly, who will be able to review your options and guide you through the process. You can reach the Guidance Department by calling 480.456.6678 and pressing Option 4.

Can parents view their student's progress?

Parents may access their student’s progress using the login credentials to their Parent/Guardian account they verified while completing the enrollment application.

Legal guardians must approve attendance weekly for their enrolled student(s). Legal guardians can access student grades as well as attendance in the Parent Student Portal.

If you are having trouble locating your login credentials or if you never set up your Parent/Guardian account, please call your School Counselor to confirm that you are an authorized user. You can reach the Guidance Department by calling 480.456.6678 and choosing Option 4.

Is my student required to complete AzMERIT exams?

Arizona public school students are required to take AzMERIT (Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching) tests in English Language Arts and Mathematics as well as AIMS (Arizona’s Instrument to Measure Standards) tests in Science.

Enrollment/Application Information

Can I enroll my student part-time?

No, Primavera K-5 is a full-time online school.

At what age can my student start kindergarten?

Your student needs to be five by September 1st.

If a student is four and won’t be turning five before the cut off date, does Primavera K-5 offer competency testing to see if a student would be able to get in prior to becoming five years old?

Not at this time.

When can I start?

Once the application is complete and your paperwork is submitted, your student will be able to start on the first day of school. If your student’s enrollment application and paperwork are submitted after the first day of school, your student will be able to start within one-two school days.

Parent Information

How do you work with students who have a 504 plan?

Primavera’s special programs department provides individualized attention and support to students who have a 504 plan based on the student’s needs in the online environment.

How do you work with students who are in special education?

Primavera’s special education department provides individualized attention and support to special needs students. A teacher/caseworker is assigned to each student from the time of enrollment and throughout all courses.

Are there going to be scheduled parent/teacher conferences throughout the school year to discuss how the student is progressing and doing?

Yes, we will be holding parent-teacher conferences. The frequency will be unique per student and based on your family’s need.

Can parents view their student’s progress?

  • Yes, parents may access their student’s progress within the learning management system (LMS) at any time!
  • Parents can request report cards from Primavera once their class grades have been posted as they are not automatically forwarded.

What curriculum will the students be using?

What does school look like for my student? Does he/she have to meet with a teacher each day?

  • Canvas is our learning management system, sometimes referred to as an LMS. Canvas provides your student’s daily course lessons.  As the Learning Coach, you should read through the lessons assigned to your student that day utilizing the Learning Coach/Parent Guides so that you are aware of what your student needs to complete.  A Learning Coach tab lives on the side of each lesson.   The tab provides an outline of what the student will be working on and what materials or actions need to be taken by the Learning Coach for that lesson.
  • Teachers hold daily live sessions to enhance and support the student learning experience. Lessons and curriculum are delivered to your student via Canvas.  Your teacher is available for questions as well as support.

Can I enroll my student part-time?

  • Everything you need is available online.  You can print off PDFs.  However, certain grade levels do require novels which can be borrowed from local libraries.
  • There are common household/school type materials that may be needed, just like with any school, including colored pencils, composition notebooks, glue, highlighters, permanent markers, pencils, ruler, scissors, scotch tape, paintbrushes, and watercolor paints. Other common household materials will also be listed within each course.

What if my student is above average in one of his/her subjects? Can my student participate in advanced courses? Can my student test into the next grade level?

We are here to support and partner with your student and to do what is best for him/her. Students will be placed at grade level upon entry unless the student’s academic record suggests otherwise.

What type of offline activities are there?

The Learning Coach Guides will help provide a view of what the student will be doing in each lesson. Offline activities are dependent upon the courses the students are enrolled in but can include PDFs to download and print for the student work on as well as games, independent reading, flashcard practice, writing exercises, etc…

How are elementary students learning to write?

Writing instruction is layered throughout the English/Language Arts program and is aligned to Common Core standards. Students are provided age-appropriate writing instruction from within the online content supported by offline guided activities.   For example, in 3rd grade Language Arts, students write a personal narrative but the instruction, practice, and final work submission are layered throughout that particular Language Arts unit.

How much is going to need to be printed/uploaded?

There are several assignments that are PDF-based that will need to be uploaded back into your student’s lessons from which the assignment originated.

How do students complete arts/crafts electronically?

The art curriculum includes guided activities for the students to produce offline. For example, in the first-grade art course, there is an activity that guides the students through how to make circles.  The Learning Coach and student are provided a materials list of items needed to complete the lesson/activity as well as directions for the Learning Coach to work through with the student.

How much screen time will my student have?

  • Students will complete both online and offline course work in order to meet their weekly attendance requirements.
  • Grades K -2 usually spend about three hours a day online and do the rest of their day offline.
  • Grade 3 usually spends about four hours a day.
  • Grades 4-5 spend about four to five hours a day.

Will my child need to take exams or submit homework in person?

How is attendance determined?

I need a flexible schedule, can Primavera K-5 help me?

Primavera K-5 will provide you a personalized, structured academic program, allowing your student to complete his/her yearly requirements per your schedule.

Where can I complete my courses?

As a Primavera K-5 student, you can do all your schoolwork from your own home, at your local library, or a nearby community center, virtually anywhere a computer and the Internet can be accessed. Coursework can be accessed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Are there any social clubs or field trips?

Social clubs and field trips will be set up at a later time based on parental and student interest.

When is standardized testing (AZM2)?

Standardized testing is held in the spring.

How is attendance determined?

K-3 grade students are required to attend at least 20 hours a week while our 4-6 grade students are required to attend 30 hours a week. Every day, attendance is recorded and confirmed by the parent. Any time spent away from your computer that involves educational activities is considered attendance. Attendance needs to be recorded on a daily basis.
