At Primavera, we have some of the best, most talented, hard working students there are! That’s why we’ve decided to shine the light on a few of our amazing students.
Each month, our teachers nominate a student they feel has gone above and beyond, and we get the opportunity to get to know them and shine the light on them a bit in this blog!
Check out their stories below:
The Student of the Month Committee Proudly Presents May Student of the Month Recipients:
Elementary School Student of the Month: Alyssa Price
Alyssa is a 5th-grade student who was nominated for Student of the Month by Kylie Fink.
“This is Alyssa’s first year attending school with other students. She has been homeschooled her whole life. I have seen her personality grow immensely since day one and I couldn’t be prouder of her! I love watching her succeed every day in class. She comes to live sessions every day and is ready to learn. She is so kind to her classmates and has made so many new friends. It also doesn’t help when she tells me ‘I know you are the only teacher I have ever had, but you are my favorite teacher!’ Haha!”

High School Student of the Month: Percephanie McKinney Washburn
Percephanie is an 11th-grade student who was nominated for Student of the Month by Thomas Gilsdorf.
“Percephanie is one of those students who truly takes pride in her work. I have seen many students over my 25 years of teaching in a brick and mortar, and the past 2 years with Primavera. She ranks as one of the best I have had the pleasure to have in my class. The depth and breadth of her work is impeccable. Every time I grade her assignments, be it an essay or discussion board, I am just so engaged and engrossed in her words, details, and positive voice and tone. Not only has Percephanie displayed pride in her work as a student, but she has also really shown a caring heart as an individual.”

Question: Why did you choose Primavera?
Public school wasn’t working out for me, so my mother pulled me out and enrolled me in Primavera. I’ve been here for two school years, and I’m entering my senior year in the fall. So far it has been wonderful with great teachers.
Question: What would you like your classmates to know about you?
My favorite band is TX2, I love mushrooms and frogs, my favorite manga artist is Junji Ito, my favorite anime is Charlotte Evergarden, and I love to draw!
Question: What makes you a successful student?
I find whatever I can to force myself to do my work and if I can’t find something I make it up. Like grounding myself from my phone until all of my work is decently done. That usually works pretty well because my friends and I talk a lot haha.
Question: What advice would you give other students to be successful?
Pushing through the procrastination even if you get all grumpy doing the work. Find what pushes you the most and milk that to get your work done and done well. You don’t have to like it but you gotta do what you gotta do.
Question: What do you want your teachers to know?
That I’m incredibly grateful for all of their kindness and support through all of my needs and struggles, and were always there to lift me up and motivate me, even when they didn’t know it. Thank you, to all of my teachers, especially those in my high school career. I can’t imagine it’s easy teaching kids who think they’re adults haha.
High School Student of the Month: Sierrah Laverdure
Sierrah is a 12th-grade student who was nominated for Student of the Month by Ryan Peterson.
“Sierrah came to Primavera in March of 2023. Before she came here, her grades were very inconsistent and she failed several courses. But since she enrolled here at Primavera, she’s passed every single course so far, with As and Bs in every course but one! Sierrah explained that the key to her recent success is that she is the oldest child in her family, and she strives to be a good role model to her three younger brothers. She is looking forward to walking across the stage at this year’s graduation ceremony so that her mom can be proud of her. Sierrah is on track to graduate in June 2024.”
