At Primavera Online School, we have countless talented, hardworking students. In this blog series, we highlight one of our exemplary students.

For this special spotlight, we’re proud to share the story of an 11th-grade Primavera student named Sean Barnhill. Let’s check out Sean’s experience at Primavera, plus get an exciting look into his plans after graduation!

The Story of Sean Barnhill

Sean Barnhill commits to play D1 Hockey at Northeastern University

Sean Barnhill, a 6’4.5”, 195-pound junior at Primavera Online, announced he has committed to Northeastern University to play Division 1 hockey, choosing the Boston school over opportunities from other schools. Barnhill will graduate early from Primavera in June 2024, and then proceed to play junior hockey before joining the Northeastern University Huskies.

Prior to committing to Northeastern, Barnhill was selected 53rd overall by the Dubuque Fighting Saints during the 2023 USHL draft. He was also invited to USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program evaluation camp in March, and has competed at the past two USA Hockey BioSteel Boys Player Development Camps.

“I love playing hockey and getting recognition from schools across the country has been amazing,” Barnhill said. “But getting a good education is also very important to me. Primavera has allowed me to work closely with my teachers in a flexible format that complements my hockey schedule.”

Barnhill, who Puck Preps rates as 4-star recruit and the 23rd-best defense man in North America for his recruiting class, has always had a passion for hockey. Knowing the demands of travel hockey, Barnhill turned to Primavera for a flexible online learning experience that wouldn’t jeopardize his future in hockey or his education.

“We knew we needed to find a special kind of program for Sean so he could continue to pursue his dreams,” Barnhill’s mother, Pamela, said. “Primavera Online allows Sean to travel around the country and take his schoolwork with him. It’s amazing to see him be able to hit the ice and be recognized by such great schools, while excelling in his education. That has been tremendously important to us.”

Set to graduate a full year ahead of his other classmates, Barnhill has thrived at Primavera while pursuing his passion for hockey.

“We’re incredibly proud of Sean and all he has accomplished both at Primavera and outside of his education,” Jessica Pagoulatos, Primavera Executive Director, said. “Seeing students like Sean pursue their dreams and still excel in their education is one of my favorite things about serving as executive director. I can’t wait to see him continue to succeed in hockey and school in the future.”
