At Primavera, we have some of the best, most talented, hard working students there are! That’s why we’ve decided to shine the light on a few of our amazing students.

Each month, our teachers nominate a student they feel has gone above and beyond, and we get the opportunity to get to know them and shine the light on them a bit in this blog!

Check out their stories below:

High School Student of the Month: Kadence Annala

Kadence is a 9th-grade student who was nominated for Student of the Month by Rose Kliban. “Once she realized the significance of them, Kadence started attending all of the Synchronous Sessions. Before she started attending, her grade wasn’t bad, but she knew she could do better than that. She also knows that she needs to do better because she plans to go to college and major in pre-med. She finished the course with a solid grade! While she was attending the Synchronous Session, I had the pleasure of watching her interactions with other students. She is very supportive of everyone who is in the room – no matter what their ability. She will help students figure out how to do the problems in a way that only peers can relate to. She explains how she takes notes so others can learn from her experience. And she’s always quick to support her peers. Kadence is almost always the first one in the room and has become the official greeter of the class. She welcomes everyone in by name, asks how their day has been going, remembers when people are going through something, and checks in with them about that event.”

Let’s get to know Kadence!

Question: Why did you choose Primavera?

I chose Primavera as a way to get away from the distractions of public high school, and to be able to fully focus on my grades and schoolwork.

Question: What would you like your classmates to know about you?

That I read in the majority of my free time. I also like to draw dress designs and try out different hairstyles.

Question: What makes you a successful student?

I place most of the credit of my successfulness on the synchronous sessions and the tutors of pencil spaces. Before I attended the live lessons, my grades were not perfect and were barely even B’s.  After the first week of attending the live lessons, my grades started to improve, and I learned about pencil spaces. I now go to every live lesson and sometimes I even go to two of them in a day.

Question: What advice would you give other students to be successful?

I want my fellow students to know that it is okay to ask for help. Demi Lovato once said; “The best advice I can give to anyone going through a rough patch is to never be afraid to ask for help.” In my completed years of schooling, I have known lots of people who would not ask for help because they thought it made them look weak. They ended up not getting the right information and assistance they needed and did not do well in the class.

Question: What do you want your teachers to know?

I want my teachers to know that they are doing a wonderful job of providing the best experience for learning. Shout out to Ms. Kliban for being the most supportive teacher I have ever had, and for always being there to listen to me. Also, for liking my lame jokes.

High School Student of the Month: Brooklyn Harrison

Brooklyn is an 11th-grade student who was nominated for Student of the Month by Jamal Arberry. “Brooklyn frequently attends live sessions, participating during sessions. She also has such a positive attitude, and her natural demeanor would be if a SMILE were personified! Whenever she needed help with her writing projects, she would reach out to me without hesitating. And when I forgot to go over one of her papers for her she was like, “It’s okay, Mr. Arberry! I know you’re busy! SMILEY FACE” She has been a wonderful student, and I admire how she is humble about what she knows she doesn’t know and seeks help when needed. Mr. Cole and Mr. Mentken think she’s awesome, too!”

Question: Why did you choose Primavera?

My mother felt it would be better for me to continue with online schooling that would allow me to have less distraction and better opportunities to achieve my goals if I attended Primavera.

Question: What would you like your classmates to know about you?

I like listening to music, my favorite band or most listened to band is Slipknot. My favorite subject would have to me English. I have 5 sisters and 4 brothers. I have 4 cats, all girls. I’m happily adopted, I love my mom. I like to sing and draw in my free time and I love to hang out with my family. My favorite teachers are Mr. Van Gelder and Mr. Arberry.

Question: What makes you a successful student?

I like to try my best, no matter what. I don’t give up even if I don’t understand things. I take my time and just focus, most of the time. My teachers are always helping me too, they make things a lot easier for me to learn.

Question: What advice would you give other students to be successful?

Never give up on anything, no matter what it is. Just be positive and focus. You got this!!!
